Dr. Fabian Otte is an elite goalkeeping coach and researcher whose career blends high-level first-team delivery with academic expertise in skill acquisition and goalkeeper-specific training design. He is currently Head of Goalkeeping at Tottenham Hotspur FC (July 2025–present), based in Greater London, following a season as Head of First Team Goalkeeper Coaching at Liverpool FC (July 2024–June 2025). Prior to returning to the Premier League, he worked in Germany as Head First Team Goalkeeper Coach at Borussia Mönchengladbach (July 2021–June 2024), after an earlier Premier League role as First Team Assistant Goalkeeper Coach at Burnley FC (June 2020–July 2021), supporting transition and first-team goalkeeper development in an elite environment. He also spent August 2023–July 2024 with the U.S. Soccer Federation as Head GK Coach for the USMNTs, contributing to national-team goalkeeper preparation and performance support.
Academically, Dr. Otte completed his PhD at the German Sport University Cologne (Deutsche Sporthochschule Köln) from 2018 to 2021, graduating summa cum laude, with a research focus on Skill Acquisition Training in Modern Football Goalkeeping, drawing from sport psychology and sport pedagogy to inform how goalkeepers learn, retain, and transfer skills under pressure. He also holds an MSc in International Marketing from Newcastle University(2015–2016), awarded with First Class / Distinction, reflecting a broader professional foundation alongside his specialist coaching pathway.
Across his practical affiliations, he has also been connected to TSG Hoffenheim within the German Bundesliga, adding further experience of high-performance goalkeeper environments in Germany. Dr. Otte speaks German, English, and French.
