Dr. Osman Ates

Dr. Osman Ateş is a Turkish sport scientist and high-performance practitioner whose work blends elite football conditioning, coach education, and applied research, with a specialist focus on soccer-specific strength and conditioning and the science and application of speed endurance training in football. He is currently a Professor at İstanbul University–Cerrahpaşa (from October 2024), having previously served as an Associate Professor (December 2018–October 2024) within the same academic environment, where his teaching and research sit within sport sciences and performance preparation.

A major strand of Dr. Ateş’ career has been his long-term involvement in national coach education structures. He has worked with the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) for more than a decade as a Tutor of UEFA courses (from September 2014), and since September 2025 he has also served as Coordinator of UEFA Fitness Coaching Courses, supporting the planning and delivery of education pathways for performance coaches operating in professional football. He also led athletic performance within youth development structures across multiple seasons, reflecting a practical understanding of how physical preparation principles are adapted across age groups and competition demands. More recently, he completed a short-term role as Head of Fitness Department at Gençlerbirliği SK (October–December 2025) and worked as Head of Athletic Performance / Sport Scientist at Sipay Bodrum FK (September 2024–February 2025).

Within ISSPF, Dr. Ateş contributed as a Lecturer (January 2020–November 2025), delivering education aligned to his core expertise in strength & conditioning for football, and specifically the application of performance science to speed endurance training, bridging physiology, programming, and the realities of weekly training structures in elite teams.

Academically, his doctoral training includes a PhD in Exercise Physiology at the University of Tartu (2009–2012) and doctoral study within Marmara University’s Sport Health Department (2008–2012), strengthening the scientific basis underpinning his practical work in performance preparation and conditioning.
