Dr. Liam Anderson completed his postgraduate training at Liverpool John Moores University, earning an MSc in Sports Physiology (Merit, 2012–2013) before completing a PhD (2013–2017). That academic pathway sits alongside an applied career that bridges elite club football, consultancy, and university-based research in applied exercise physiology.
He is currently an Assistant Professor in Applied Exercise Physiology at the University of Birmingham (May 2023–present), following a period as a Research Fellow in Applied Exercise Physiology at the same institution (July 2021–May 2023). In parallel with academia, he works within elite football consultancy as a Sports Science Consultant for the Premier League (February 2025–present), bringing an applied lens to performance and physical preparation at the highest level of the English game.
Before moving fully into his university role, Anderson held senior performance positions in professional football, including Head of Sports Science & Medicine at Crewe Alexandra (September 2017–July 2021) and Head of Sports Science and Fitness at Videoton FC (June 2016–June 2017) in Hungary. Earlier in his career, he worked within a top Premier League environment as part of Liverpool FC’s first-team sports science staff (June 2013–May 2016) after gaining foundational experience as a Sports Science Intern at Everton FC (July 2012–June 2013).
