Thomas Pratl is a football coach and coach-educator whose work sits at the intersection of methodical–tactical football coaching and applied sport psychology, with a particular emphasis on mental skills training and the psychological demands of leadership in high-performance environments. Alongside his coaching work, he has built a consistent education profile as a guest lecturer, delivering specialist content that connects on-pitch coaching behaviours with performance psychology and athlete development.
He has been a Guest Lecturer on the Master’s programme “Coaching & Sports” at Fachhochschule Wiener Neustadt (May 2018–present), where he delivers two guest lectures per year focused on methodical–tactical considerations in football. Earlier, he also contributed to Austrian coach education as a guest lecturer at BSPA Vienna (January–May 2013), presenting on emotional intelligence and emotionally intelligent leadership in sport, reinforcing his practical interest in how coaches shape performance through communication, culture, and decision-making under pressure.
In the professional game, Pratl spent seven years with FC Flyeralarm Admira, progressing through key academy leadership roles before stepping into first-team responsibility. He served as U15 Academy Head Coach (July 2017–June 2020), U16 Academy Head Coach (July 2020–December 2021), and U18 Academy Head Coach (January 2022–June 2023), supporting long-term player development across critical transition phases. He then became First Team Head Coach (June 2023–June 2024), bringing his academy-based methodology into the senior environment. Across his broader pathway, he has also held first-team roles at semi-professional levels, including SC Pinkafeld (First Team Head Coach, November 2014–May 2017) and UFC Sonnhofen (First Team Head Coach, June–November 2014), as well as earlier coaching responsibilities with SV Oberwart and TSV Hartberg U17. His experience also includes a period supporting adaptive sport as Assistant Football Coach for the Austrian Disabled National Team (Cerebral Palsy) (June–December 2014).
Pratl’s development work is strongly rooted in regional and federation structures. He spent almost eight years with the Burgenland Football Association, coaching within the LAZ pathway (U9–U14) and contributing as a lecturer in coach education. He has also been involved in national projects, including work as an ÖFB Projekt 12 Coach (Burgenland)and as an individual coach within Academy Burgenland, reflecting sustained involvement in talent development systems and coach learning environments.
Academically, he completed an MSc in Applied Sport Psychology at St Mary’s University, Twickenham (2013–2014), complementing his coaching profile with a formal grounding in performance psychology. He also holds a Post-Graduation Diploma in High Performance Football Coaching from Faculdade de Motricidade Humana (2016). More recently, his continued professional learning includes certifications as a mindfulness trainer (issued September 2024) and a self-experience trainer (issued December 2024), supporting his applied work in mental skills and psychological readiness.
